Do I need to take Fundamentals of Mathematics (MH050), Fundamentals of Writing (CM050), Foundations of Math I and/or II (FM051/FM052) or Foundations of Writing I and/or II (FW051/FW052)?
All students are required to take Fundamentals or Foundations classes unless they earn advance standing by submitting a composite ACT score higher than 21, a composite SAT score higher than 1485 (if taken before March 2006 then a composite score higher than 990) or achieving advance standing by taking GU/MSB's entrance exam which is described below.
CPAt Test Takers Students accepted into all Diploma, Associate of Applied Science or Bachelor of Science degree programs are required to complete MH050 Fundamentals of Mathematics in additions to regular requirements if they receive a score of lower than 55 on the CPAt Mathematics component. Students in all programs are required to complete CM050 Fundamentals of Writing in addition to regular requirements if they receive score of lower than 50 on the CPAt language component.
Accuplacer Test Takers If you took the Accuplacer and scored less than 38 on the Arithmetic section then you will need to take FM051 and FM052, if you scored less than 65 and 38 or higher then you only need to take FM052. If you scored less than 87 and 54 or higher on the Sentence section then you will only need to take FW052. If you scored 65 or higher on the Arithmetic section you do not need to take any Foundations classes. If you scored 87 or higher on the Sentence section then you do not need to take any Foundations classes.
I would like to attempt a test out, how can I get that done?
To test out of a class you will need to contact the Academic Department at the campus you wish to take the test out. Remember, not all classes have test outs so you want to check the Master Test Out list (which can only be found on campus.) You will need to make an appointment at least 24 hours in advance. Test outs are administered on campus and are facilitated through an online system. You need to score a 70% or higher to pass the test out and receive credit for the course. The grade on your transcript will be shown as P for passing. Test outs are free of charge. You can only attempt a test out once, if you do not pass and the class is required for your program you will need to take it.
Note: Once you have attended a class, even one day, you are not eligible to take the test out.
I would like to attempt the Keyboarding test out, how can I do this?
Each campus does Keyboarding test-outs differently. The requirements are the same, you need to achieve a specified typing speed, a 10-key speed and complete production work. The times needed to pass the test-out are different for each program, although they are outlined in the GU/MSB Course Catalog. To find out how your campus handles students wishing to take test out please use the contact numbers provided. Once you have attended a class, even one day, you cannot test-out of it.
I have an issue with another student, who should I talk to?
If you have an issue with another student please speak the Dean of Student at any campus. We want all students at MSB/Globe to feel safe and respected at all times while on campus. Please inform the Dean of Students of any concerns you have.
I have an issue with an instructor, who should I talk to?
Students are encouraged to speak with the instructor regarding any problems or issues that may arise during the progression of the course. If the problem is academic in nature requesting additional help or guidance from the instructor should always be your first move. If additional assistance is required MSB/Globe has many different options for students. Click here for a listing of academic resources.
Should the issue need more attention, or you do not feel comfortable speaking with your instructor please contact the Dean of Students at your campus who will be able to assist you further.
How do I read my schedule?
There is a lot of information you will see on the schedule print out that may look confusing at first. You will want to remember to read it from left to right, that way you will be better able to understand the information listed. First listed will be the days your class meets (below you will find the key) if there are two letters this means that your class meets two days a week (MW = Mondays and Wednesdays.) Next are the start and end times, followed by the room number and then the course code. The next combo you see is the section number (for example R1 or SC6), next you will find the instructor's name and the number of credits behind that. Lastly, you will find the start and end date of the class.

How do I know if distance learning (online classes) is right for me?
Learning through distance education requires a significant amount of self-motivation and commitment. Having the flexibility to attend class and study when it is right for you ensures the other commitments in your life will be less disrupted than attending a residential class. However, taking an online class means you must be self-motivated. If you are thinking of taking an online class please speak to someone in the Academic Department who can best answer all your questions. To find out more about taking Online classes, click here.
