What You Need for Taking Online Courses


 

Online System Requirements

Online courses require a high level of interaction and participation in the course environment. It is highly recommended that students have their own computer equipped with the system requirements in order to succeed in online courses:

Internet Connection

Broadband (Cable or DSL) strongly recommended, 56Kbps minimum.

Hardware

Pentium PC (Courses are not MacIntosh compatible)

Operating System

Microsoft Windows XP or VISTA Operating System.

Software

 

 

 

Microsoft Office Professional 2007 or 2003 Suite (MS Works, Wordperfect and WordPad are not compatible with Blackboard).

Some courses require MS Office Professional 2007

Some online courses may require additional software to be purchased by the student.

Anti-virus software (Firewall software or Norton Security Software may cause issues when using Blackboard)

Browser

Internet Explorer is recommended. There are compatibility issues with the AOL web browser.

E-mail Capabilities

An email account through the college email system is provided and required. Details are within the online orientation course.

Internet/Computer Access

Students who do not own a computer must have consistent access mulitiple times per week to a computer that meets these minimum requirements.
