Student Spotlight - Jeanne Castellano
I live north of the metro area, which is why online learning works best for me. I have an Associate degree from my local community college and am now pursuing my BS in Accounting through MSB Online. I have a six year old daughter and twins (son and daughter) that are about to turn four, a great husband and a dog named Eddie (after Eddie Van Halen of course).
Professional background
I have worked as the Payroll/Benefits Coordinator for a small business close to my home for over 15 years. It's been a really great place to work with great people, supportive atmosphere, but there's basically no room for advancement so I'm working to educate myself to eventually move on and make more money.
Personal interests and hobbies
I love spring and summer and enjoy gardening and working outside during this time of the year. I like to travel and spend time at the beach when I can. Since I have three small children, I'm very busy with the kids and occasionally, I enjoy a dinner out with my husband.
Why I enjoy attending MSB Online
Because I work and have children at home, online education fits me perfectly. I was always pretty good at studying independently and getting my work done on time so I felt I had a good grip on that. I also didn't necessarily need that classroom interaction to learn, although that is the one piece you can't duplicate on the computer.
Why I believe in online education
I believe in online education because it creates opportunities for people in different stages of their lives. Education is so important and with the birth of the internet, additional ways of learning were created. If it were not for online education, I would probably not be going to school.
My future goals
First and foremost, I want to earn my Bachelors in Accounting, and I would also like to pursue my CPA designation after that. My ultimate goal is to have my own accounting and tax preparation business and work from home. Eventually all the kids will be in school so that will allow me to be home for them when the leave and come back from school. It will also give me the flexibility for all those extra curricular activities.
